CORNHOLE
COMPETITION DIVISIONS:
Corn Hole is a singles, doubles (2 women or 2 men) and mixed doubles competition for individuals 50 yrs. of age and older. It is an individual age category competition which is divided into both men and women divisions. All age brackets will be played as a round-robin tournament.
TOURNAMENT:
- The game shall be played to a predetermined number of 21 points.
- The first player/team to reach (or exceed) that amount at the conclusion of an inning is the winner.
- There will be 8 bags, 4 bags of each color.
- Each bag will be 6 inches by 6 inches and have 1 pound of corn inserted into each Cornhole bag.
FORMAT:
- Every match is broken down into innings of play. During an inning, each player must pitch all four of his/her bags. A round is never completed until all players pitch all four bags.
- Boards will be positioned 27 feet from the front of one board to the front of the opposite board. Taking age into consideration, the coordinator may move the boards closer.
- Players must pitch from the pitcher’s box behind the foul line.
Singles Play:
- A coin flip or choosing a number (1or 2), determines which individual has honors in round one.
- A Cornhole player may throw from anywhere behind the front of the Cornhole box they are throwing from.
- A player must pitch all four bags from the same side of the box during each turn for the whole game.
- Game continues by alternating throws between the two players until all 8 Cornhole bags have been thrown.
- Players then walk to the end of their lane to the other court, take score, and resume pitching back to the other board.
- The top of an inning is completed when the first player pitches all four bags; the bottom of the inning is completed when the remaining player pitches all four bags.
- The player who scored highest on their preceding turn shall pitch first on their next turn. If neither player scores, the player who pitched second (last) during their preceding turn, shall pitch first in their next turn.
- If a Cornhole bag hits the ground then bounces up onto the board, that bag shall be taken off the playing surface.
Doubles/Mixed Doubles Play:
- A coin flip or choosing a number (1or 2), determines which team has honors in round one.
- A Cornhole player may throw from anywhere behind the front of the Cornhole box they are throwing from.
- A team must pitch all four bags from the same side of the box during each turn for the whole game.
- Game continues by alternating throws between the two teams until all 8 Cornhole bags have been thrown.
- Players at the footboard will take the score and resume pitching back to the other board.
- The top of an inning is completed when both players pitch all four bags; the bottom of the inning is completed when the remaining players pitch all four bags.
- The team who scored highest on their preceding turn shall pitch first on the next turn. If neither team scores, the team who pitched second (last) during their preceding turn, shall pitch first in their next turn.
- If a Cornhole bag hits the ground then bounces up onto the board, that bag shall be taken off the playing surface.
Fouls
- A Cornhole player’s foot goes past the foot foul line, termed a foot foul.
- A player goes out of turn.
- The player who caused the foul loses the throw when the foul occurs and the bag shall be removed if it landed on the playing surface.
- Any bag not delivered within the 20-second time limit.
- A bag pitched from a different pitcher’s box than the first bag.
- Any bag removed from the board before scoring has been agreed upon for that bag.
- A bag that leaves a player’s hand once the final forward swing of the delivery process has started shall count as pitched bag.
- A bag that is accidentally dropped by a player before the final forward swing has started shall not be considered foul and may be picked up and pitched.
Scoring
- The score shall be taken after all Cornhole bags have been thrown for an inning. All points count; there will be no canceling of points.
- Points shall be given as follows:
- 3 points for a Cornhole bag that goes through the hole.
- 1 point for a Cornhole bag that is on the playing surface.
- 1 point for a Cornhole bag that is hanging into the hole.
- 1 point for a Cornhole bag that is hanging off the edge but not touching the ground.
- 0 points for a Cornhole bag that is on the playing surface, but also touching the ground.
- 0 points for a Cornhole bag that is hanging off the edge and is resting on a Cornhole bag that is on the ground (unless the Cornhole bag on the ground can be removed without making the hanging bag fall to the ground, then one point is given).
- If the Cornhole match is tied at the end of the last inning, play continues until one individual for singles or team for doubles achieves a higher score at the end of an inning and wins the match.
- Winners will be awarded either the gold, silver or bronze medal in each age bracket.
